I’m Still Playing With my Rings

What a day. I’ve been going through some things I packed away. Looking for  an old bankbook from the early 1900’s and a tiny box of antique Rosaries. No luck yet, but I did come across a few things I forgot I even had. So, the next time I pack a box I am going to give it a code, then list the items in a notebook. I wish I had done that all along.

On to my rings, I’m still playing with them. They aren’t nearly the kind I want to make in the future, but we have to start somewhere. I’m sure one day I will look back at them and laugh like I did when I first started making Christmas decorations.

Here are some photo’s:

Oh Joy!

I was so happy to have a few days off. Now I am even more so. I get the rest of the week off!!! I know I should be marking off my “to do” list but all I seem to have accomplished is staying up until the wee hours and indulging myself in laziness. I know I’ll pay for it when it’s over. But, oh well, I’m taking advantage of this anyway. Sometimes life is good! The other stuff can wait.

If any beaders are reading this post I just wanted to point out that there is a link to the “Starving Jewelry Artist” forum over on the right column under “Beady Bloggers.” It’s a great place, a wonderful community of positive people. No snide remarks, no attitude. Everyone there is so encouraging, even to us beginners. So go on over and join.

An Update on my Free Form Necklace

I’d like to thank Barbara (whoever and where ever you are) for stopping by and asking if this necklace was going to be a closed one or a lariat. I hadn’t decided at that point what it would become. But since I have never made a lariat before I decided this was my chance. So thank you :)

I’ve reached the length of my necklace so now I can start on the fun stuff. Adding design and detail. I have absolutely no ideas yet but I do know I’ll be adding tiny drops. I bought them a while ago and just love them.

My husband keeps telling me I should add more colour to my things, but if you saw my wardrobe, you’d understand why I stick mostly to one shade. I have no sense of fashion or style. My sisters (who always look polished and chic and aren’t above spending hundreds on a pair of shoes) usually ask  ”Are you really going out like that?” Did I mention I’m cheap? REALLY CHEAP at least when it comes to non-essentials. I’m happy to have ONE quality pair of boots, coat etc… anything more than that forget it.

So I change into something that one of them gave me from their “I’ll never wear again piles.” But I know it’s for that reason alone (so when we are out in public I don’t make them look bad).  I swear I’d have no wardrobe if it was not for them. I can’t stand clothes shopping.

This time I MIGHT go for a splash of colour here and there.  Why not live a little? I can always take it out if I don’t like it. That’s all for now.

Happy Beading :)

Is it a Racehorse?

The family also had a horse and buggy taxi service. But I noticed the wheel in the lower part of the picture looks smaller than the photos of the other ones. Racehorse or no?

I know it is not good quality.

Not sure about these ones.

A Free Form in the Making

This is a free form beaded necklace in the making. I’m hoping it evolves into something much larger and unique. But every structure needs a base. This is it. Over the next few weeks I’ll keep you up to date on its creation.
I didn’t say it will be pretty or even nice. I’m striving for….hmmmm……that’s different.

Welcome to United North America.

How does something like this get signed without our consent? Without any input from American and Canadian citizens? And what exactly does the plan entail? Any civil disruption? Are they thinking that people are finally waking up to everything and might actually demand accountability. People want a government that wants what is best for the citizens. I am soooo pissed off right now.

This Conservative Government is the worst thing to ever happen to Canada. Who got to make this decision? I want to know. ”Civil Assistance Plan?” As if! If there was a need in an emergency like what they state, natural disasters or terrorist attack, they would already help out if needed. So why does the Canadian and American Military need to sign an agreement like this? I’d like to read the finer print. Maybe civil protests? Does it cover that? And they mention Marshal Law? WTF???

The future looks a lot less rosy now, doesn’t it? We can all look forward to Marshal Law. Oh, Yay.  I’m sorry, I know I’m a beaded jewelry site but I couldn’t wait for my “Sunday Report” for this.

Maybe I should start beading the new flag? With pretty pictures of our resources being bled dry, our Canadian and US jobs being lost to the 3rd United North American party and the dollar sign falling through a big black crack.

Thanks for bending over Harper, just remember, that is the position you remain in when you play with the big guns.

UPDATE: This was signed on Valentines Day. The Harper Government didn’t even mention it at all. Here is another link to an article at canada.com.

Two Wrongs Can Make a Right

Every beader must have “the stash of mistakes.” Things we have made and somehow it never worked as planned. We set them aside not quite ready to give up on them, or not in the mood to take it apart and salvage the beads. Well, my stash is quite large. I have a definite knack for not planning ahead or not making sure I have the correct amount of beads that I will need to actually complete the piece.

Which is what happened to this spiral. It was supposed to be a necklace but I ran out of beads.

This next photo is a bracelet I had started. It didn’t quite work out. I obviously had tension issues and wasn’t following the pattern either. I was occupied with other things. Maybe it was while I was watching “House” :)

They did look good together:

After a few twists and some extra sewing, I ended up with a pretty neat bracelet after all:

I’ll whip up a clasp tonight and have two less pieces to take apart. I’ll see what else I can come up with out of all my mistakes. This could get interesting….
