A Debate Among Friends

Feminism Today.

I’m a constant reader of Will Rhodes blog and had noticed the word feminism brought up in some articles he wrote. Just kind of added into something he wrote about. (Don’t be mad, Will) And I thought this guy is trying to push some buttons. It’s just that it was something I rarely thought about. And I probably have a much different view of it than some people. But then again, I’ve never been accused of being normal anyway :)

So I mentioned that he should maybe write a post about it. For one, he just writes better and two I really am curious what everyone thinks about it. Three, there was no way I wanted to get bombarded with hate mail LMAO! Ah, we women can be such wenches!

My take is on developed Western Countries. I do realize that in other parts of the world there is a huge change needed. I do not take it lightly at all. But my interest is in how we are personally effected by it. I tend to pick and choose my causes, and with everything going on in this world, there are millions of them to pick from. Feminism just wasn’t one of them, but I am thankful it is for others! What is your take? What is your experience and how do you deal with it? Does it even matter to you? For the men, don’t you think you are treated unfairly as well? At work? At home? Don’t you think things are expected from you because you are a man?

So I am going to ask a few people to rise to the challenge.

Here is where you can find Will’s post. LINK

And some people I’d love to give their views: (of course everyone on my blogroll and links)

thanks for the link love. i’ve left a comment there, but i don’t know if my view is in accordance to the general view, judging by the comments left there.

  2. museditions Says:

I know you said not to leave comments here, and I did leave my rather extensive opinion over at Will’s place, but I just have to say “You are too an excellent writer”. So there! :)

  3. Stonehead Says:

I toddled over for a look and left a comment, but I don’t think it entirely wise to have invited me to the party. My dancing style is not to most people’s tastes!

I haven’t visited your blog before, although I have seen your comments bylined Thebeadden. I was quite surprised, and amused, to see your blog is “The Bead Den”. I had a Somali friend some years ago whose name was Adden, so I’ve always thought your pseudonym was a running together of “Thebe Adden”. :D

  4. thebeadden Says:

Thanks sulz for letting me know how to edit!

    Ahhhh, musEditions, thank you!

Stonehead, that is funny! So when I posted at your site you thought it was Thebe Adden?

I just want to thank you all for taking the time for giving your input. When I read your posts there, it really restores my faith in humanity. There are so many good people in this world, many of them right here in WordPress!

Just being in this company makes me want to be a better person :)

  5. kaylee Says:

    BEADDEn HOW ARE YOU?

  6. thebeadden Says:

I am doing 90% better than last week Kaylee! How are your leg cramps today? I have the day off, and should be doing stuff around the house, but ……

I deserve a few hours of reading first :)
This blogging can get quite addictive can’t it? And I have no will-power! I’m going to have to pack up my computer just to finish my to-do list around the house! :)
    Talk to you later :)

  7. kaylee Says:

I am feeling much better :P

  8. dissfunktional Says:

you’re killin’ me beaden. somebody give me steve’s blog; he’s shown he’s not man enough to link to it. everybody else has stood up yet this one keeps signing out before posting. how convenient.

told you this one would get my gord ;) i tried to leave it alone, but darn it…

  9. thebeadden Says:

oh diss….I feel you. I’ve tried so hard to ignore and just take him for what he is. I don’t know his site, I don’t think he has one.

  10. museditions Says:

diss, bead, :!: I wanted to quote my favorite line from Seabiscuit: “Son, why are you so angry?” —I was afraid he’d tell me. 8)

  11. thebeadden Says:

I know…I wanted to say hurting inside but didn’t want to be cheesy.

  12. dissfunktional Says:

Have you ever asked someone “how are you?” and they really told you? At the grocery line the check out clerk always asks “And, how are you today?” I’ve thought about spilling it, just to blow her mind. You know that fellow that stood out on the streets of NY with the “Free Hugs” sign? It was taped and went viral (mostly because of the law getting bent out of shape for a while I suspect). One could tape their detailed replies to receiving this question “How are you?” so many times a day - that would be way funny.

    yes, i’m a sic person ;)

  13. thebeadden Says:

    ahahahahaha. :)

I’d love to be in that line-up!

  14. museditions Says:

Shall we interpret that as “diss as thus”? or “diss, a person to put upon?” (We shall sic diss upon the innocent checkout clerk!) :D I love the “free hugs” guy! He’s still a big it on YouTube.

  15. thebeadden Says:

I don’t know the “hugs guy” I’ll hop on over to you tube and find him now.

  16. dissfunktional Says:

more like “diss, who loves to laugh at videos that make it to youtube” or what any other would interpret as ‘humor’.

  17. dissfunktional Says:

oh… and the “Smile, it can’t possibly be that bad” right when you’re low as he// … because if you have a real life and real emotions, indeed, it can be “that bad”. I’ve wanted to punch a guy in the nuts for this one, his timing was really, really bad. Fortunately for him the elevator door opened just in time. ;)

  18. thebeadden Says:

There were so many free hugs videos there. I don’t know if I watched the original one. How cool. That would be fun.

Something like that would make my whole day.

  19. dissfunktional Says:

    you want this one:

  20. Moonbeam McQueen Says:

BD, thanks for including me in this. I’ve been keeping up with the discussion, and although I wrote some comments this weekend about the subject, my brain is so exhausted that I decided to just shut up for now. How smart you are to generate such great discussions, and to invite so many great commenters!

  21. Moonbeam McQueen Says:

Juan Mann (the free hugs guy) is fantastic!

  22. thebeadden Says:

MB, I didn’t want to put anyone on the spot. But I was curious about what people do think. I know….what a great list we have here and the conversation went much more civil than I had expected. I think WordPress Bloggers are one of a kind :)

I would never have even thought about it, but I had noticed the word pop up at Will’s site. So blame him. LOL!

Exhausted! I hear you. I can’t even think right now. This week and next will be a busy one, so I won’t be around as much. Take Care and hope you are feeling better and that work is going okay.
