The First Long Week-End

Here in Canada we are celebrating Victoria Day. It’s also the week-end many people start their gardens. But this week-end is cold and rainy. So I decided I to work instead. Maybe take a few days off through the week if it is nice. Which was a good idea because it didn’t rain on the way home, so I was able to stop off at a few lawn sales (this is also the week-end they kick off) and hunt for the usual things I do every year. Yes, I am crazy about them! I look for old gadgets, manual things for the kitchen, hand tools. Anything that can be used without power or batteries. They are getting scarce. I try my best to only buy those items and nothing that is not an absolute need but…

…there is one thing I cannot stop buying no matter what I do. I have a problem. I am addicted to all things Christmas. We don’t buy Christmas gifts (except for young ones) but decorating for Christmas is like an obsession. There is not a room that goes untouched. And I even have a theme for each room. I know, it’s bad. If I could I would leave them up forever! It takes so long to decorate, I start in November! I love the look on peoples faces when they walk in. The kids think they’ve entered some new universe! LOL! I tried to decorate outside one year but people steal the decorations. So until I move to the country (fingers crossed), I’m limited to the indoors. Once I get the chance to do the outside, watch out world! Minus the lights though. They are beautiful but the electrical part of it scares me. There are many ways to make a Christmas statement without them. Yes, I know…it’s May. I’m hanging my head in shame here people. I know they are definitely not a needed item. But I can buy a whole box of stuff for a few dollars! And they are recycled in a way, right? I’m not buying new. (You should see the Santa I got. I have to fix him up a bit, his belt is broken and he needs a bit of sprucing up. Maybe I’ll do that tonight. If anyone wants to see him, I’ll post a photo.)

On to more important things:

I was over at MusEditions site the other day and though I usually support local charities and causes, she inspired me to give a little extra. So I made a donation through a local church group that was collecting. I find it hard to donate outside local charities because I have read about all the corruption with a lot of bigger ones. Even one I had recommended to people years ago! I don’t want to put a damper or bad word out but through talking with people from other Countries and some things they have told me about where the money ends up makes me upset. But then if we don’t give anything, then all those people affected get absolutely nothing. I just wish we could see the results of all that money. Not the highways and resorts, but the homes for the people. It’s sad that I think like that, it’s so negative, but it is also true in many cases.

Have a great Long Week-End to my fellow Canadians.

Pretty good ((((Kaylee)))) Sorry for not answering last night. I was downlading a bunch of stuff and lost track of time. How are you? Feeling any better? I hope so!

You have to be very careful who you donate to. There are so many frauds out there. I have donated food to the local food bank because I know it goes to local people who need it.

We like to decorate at Christmas too though I don’t think we are quite on your level. We do make all of our Christmas gifts to our friends and family. My daughter and I bake together for about two weeks before Christmas. It’s the best part of Christmas for me.

Thanks for the link, and the inspiration, bead! I do both an intuitive check and a reality check with these orgs., and I don’t donate to those who solicit me, I like to pick out my own. Looks like you did some great lawn shopping! I appreciate the link to Victoria Day. I had wondered about it. I’m still confused, though. You celebrate the current sovereign’s birthday on the prior one’s birthday? or something? :?

Joan: I hear you! It’s pretty sad when we read how many charties are not doing what they tell you. I wish there was more over-sight on them. We seem to find out far too late that our money did not go to what we intended it did. Where are the homes for the people????? You are right, giving to local charities seems to be the best bet, but I worry that if we don’t help world-wide, all those people will be suffering. We donate and cross our fingers that they will get some help at least.

Muse - What you are going to make me think? In all honesty, no one seems to care, it’s cottage opening week-end to most. LOL It’s a day off. Now I have to go check :)
I cannot wait to read about your week! Your posts are one of the things I really look forward to when I get online. They make me want to be a better person :)
