I wanted to make some beaded leaves and was having such a hard time wrapping my head around the tutorials. I found this pattern (click for pattern) and these beautiful earrings at the Beaded Jewelry site.
Aren’t they lovely? The pattern is shown but there were no written instructions. As usual, I just did my own thing. I was making leaves for a necklace, not for earrings. I made some errors which you will notice right away because they do not look the same!
How I did it: click on the pattern and look at the picture. I looked for the longest (width wise) part. That was the 8th row of the pattern. (Not including the closure beads at the top) I counted the beads (21) and used the ladder stitch. How to do a ladder stitch.
I continued down to the bottom of the pattern using the brick stitch. (Found on same link above) I made my way back up to the ladder where I started and worked my way upwards. That was the only way I could do it. Though it doesn’t look quite the same, I am pleased with the outcome. They do at least resemble leaves.
Here are some pictures:
While I am on the topic of beaded leaves, one can’t talk leaves and not mention Victoriya Katamashvili. Her work is exquisite to say the least. Just look at one of her designs:
An added bonus: She shared instructions to make this! Click here.
For more beautiful inspirations from Victoriya click here. Isn’t her work amazing?
I think I found my new bead muse in her!

You did not! Seriously! Make these! You must have gotten them in a high-end boutique and are attempting to pass them off as your own work!
I love the green you chose. I think wearing a necklace like this would make people feel fresh and connected to nature as well as artistically elegant.
If there are errors, I can’t see any.
Hahaha! You’re just saying that…
The first one took me 3 hours! The other two about 2 hours.
I can see why people sell stuff like that at the price they do. Talk about time consuming. Not only that, you have to pay attention. I couldn’t do it while watching TV.
I said beading is my stress relief…I better think again.
Thanks though!
Hello Again:
Thanks for commenting on my blog. http://www.beadnfun.wordpress.com
I think that I have your link on my blog from a while back when you commented to me. You are one of few that has ever found me.
This design was in a recent Bead and Button article from the second to last issue. I am certainly enjoying doing it. Some of them are not my cup of tea, but I like it when I can just bead, not two blue beads, one white bead, one red bead, that sort of thing. The intense instructions. So I continue to bead what I enjoy.
Colleen Thomas. Yep you can link me, and visa versa.
Yes, we linked to each other quite some time ago. By the way your site looks fantastic! What a change. It makes me want to re-design mine! Just going to make the post now. Thanks!
Great patterns!!!Especially the last one!! Thank you!!
Wow! Amaaaziing! I would love to try this, although mine wont be as good as these masterpieces!
Link swaps for craft blogs like this great one
Well done. I think the most important thing when making leaves is your tension. As you end if you go back through a diamond shaped brick stitch using only the edges and pull tight you get a curled effect t even without a hole…
Gotta say…these earrings are as sparkly as the expensive ones I seen browsing hen…artist was Joan Boyce…these are better really considering the staggering cost difference
Thanks, Jezebel! I appreciate the information. The earrings at the top are great, aren’t they? One day I will master this technique and do the same.
They must have an abundance of patience!
Thanks for dropping by and sharing some of your knowledge!
Fabulous work! Wish I could get results like this with crochet . . . one day I will seriously try beading.
Thank you! It took me ages to make them. Have you ever crocheted with wire? It’s pretty neat!
Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
(Love your blog!)
Have not tried wire. Yet. Somehow has not appealed to me. Maybe someday. Keep up the good work!
Thanks!
Wow! Those are gorgeous!
Thank you! I would like to make more of them one day. With inspiration like that it’s hard not to. But it took a lot of patience and time.
Those are beautiful and when I hear how long it took to complete them, I, too can see why they cost so much. Beautiful jog and thanks for visiting. Will definitely be following you!
Thank you so much, jerseytjej! They did take forever but the outcome is worth it. I think I could make better time now that I know how to do it. Take care and thank you for stopping by!
