I have been awarded a Versatile Blogger Award! What really made me happy about it was that it was awarded by a blogger I started reading to learn more about gardening. To think she liked my blog…:)
About Willow Cottage Garden: “This is our blog all about our family and the food we grow, cook and enjoy together. We live on the edge of the Cotswolds in England and our three children are growing just about as fast as the weeds on our vegetable plot. We are an ordinary family that loves growing and eating our own food – and our blog is as much about recording these precious years as it is about sharing what we do. We hope you enjoy what you see here – and would love to hear your thoughts, comments and questions.”
I love their site and thank you for the award!
The link to the nomination post can be found here.

Let me tell you something first. I read and even pressed the like button on her post. I didn’t even see my name in the nomination list! I left a comment. Did not mention my nomination because I did not read the list. Why?
Well I was laughing so hard and telling my husband about what I had just read. It seems we have the same issue about thinning seedlings. Everyone teases me about this. I had called my husband over to read it. She can’t bring herself to throw them out either! It’s not just me!
I’ll do all I can to save them, pull them, re-pot them, move them to another area. Then tell myself that I did my best to save them. If they make it, great, if not…I tried. I am so happy to know there is someone out there who has to save them. I was so happy, I immediately commented and failed to read the list! Sorry about that.
The rules for the award say we have to nominate 15 bloggers we like – so here goes (in no particular order): I am narrowing this down to six because I have a busy afternoon and wanted to get this up promptly.
*Please Note: If you have previously been awarded this award, if you would rather not participate, don’t feel obligated to post or accept it. I will not be offended in any way. I am merely mentioning bloggers I like so that some of the people who come here can find out about your blog.*
1. Moonbeam McQueen because her blog is like sitting down with a friend. She is funny as hell, entertaining and her posts always tug at my heart. Just want to note part two to her post about Abby the “Spoon Lady” is up. Wait until you find out what became of this friendship. So awesome! Read it here.
2. Ha! Tea ‘n’ Danger because I have known him from WordPress land since I got here. Both our blogs have went through many changes over the years. Not just in name but content. I do consider him a friend. He inspires me to change, grow and still be true to who I am. And believe me, I can change “who I am” on a dime! While we have differences in beliefs on some things, he still likes me for who I am, and I for him. I respect him. I don’t say that often or lightly about many people. I love all people in general, I dole out respect rarely.
3. Musings From a Stonehead because this family inspired both my husband and I to become more self-sufficient. Another thing he did was make us see what we wanted to do was not going to be easy. We downgraded our aspirations! There was no way we would be able to work as hard as they do! We found a middle ground that makes us happy. (To be honest, when he first commented on my blog, it made me feel like a rock star had dropped a me line!) LOL! I just about croaked!
4. WordPress because it is simply the best place to blog. I wish everyone would switch over to it! I tend to only keep up with blogs that are on wordpress. It’s like jumping through hoops to leave comments at other blogging sites! WordPress keeps everything at my fingertips. They notify me about comments, keep me up to date with everything. (This is a gentle hint to anyone at other sites, come on over, the grass IS greener on this side!)
5. Canadian Dirtbags a blog I recently started following. Why? I love the name and I am Canadian! But really they are doing the most amazing things. This is from their about page: “We’re just a couple of reformed (“reform-ing”?) city kids living out in the middle of nowhere, Alberta trying to plot out a sustainable life for ourselves. We intend to build a home out of natural and recycled materials and go entirely off-grid by 2012. Once we’ve established ourselves we hope to help others to achieve the same. We call ourselves the “Canadian Dirtbags”, a tongue in cheek reference to our favourite building practice using earthbags.”
6. Beaded Jewelry because I have found some great, FREE, tutorials over there. She does beautiful work and is willing to share her knowledge. Can you get better than that?
Next up we have to blog seven things about ourselves. So, here goes:
1. I have a garden blog here.
2. I have trouble getting done everything I want to do and what I am capable of doing. This year I have been closing the gap. Working on the possible and dropping what is not. I have to realize I simply do not have the time or resources to do everything that I would like to.
3. I used to blog about politics and news. It consumed me. I honestly believe that is what gave me stomach problems. I still love it though. It’s fascinating stuff. I had a blog with hundreds of links to everything out there. I still have the list. Just can’t give it up. I did get rid of my political books. So far I have donated several hundred. From over 700 (all genres) books I am probably down to about 250.
4. We are going to put our focus on our property and various simple living techniques this year. Expect to see a bunch of experiments at our garden blog!
5. Family comes first with both of us. That is one thing my husband and I have in common. I think it’s a good thing!
6. I love antiques, anything that has a history. I don’t care about value. Just that it was touched by someone, used by someone all those years ago. When I find an old handmade nail I jump in delight! It feels like a gift at Christmas!
7. I love food. Really love it. You know how strangers meet and discuss the weather just for conversation? Me, I ask where they are from, what kind of food is popular there, what they grow and how they cook it. People love talking about this stuff! I’ve never had a short conversation with a stranger when it comes to talking about their homeland and the food they eat!
Thanks for dropping by, feel free to drop a comment.
