Mixed Bead and Jump Ring Necklace

Even though I am hooked on making all this jewelry, you won’t find me out and about wearing it, I rarely even wear my wedding rings. (I can’t wear it at work and putting them on for a few hours at night is pointless)

I pierced my own ears in public school (yes…OUCH) and still can’t believe they never closed over with the 2 or three times a year I wear earrings.

I’ll wear things on special occasions though, and this necklace is one I usually choose:

Another Bead and Wire Necklace

I got this design from wonderful book my Grandmother lent me a while back. I’ll have to give her a call to get the name of it and who created it. It looks better when it is being worn. Here it’s laying flat so the beads aren’t hanging properly. I really enjoyed making this one. Wire isn’t the easiest thing (for me) to work with, so when it actually turned out, I was impressed!

I’ve been experimenting with different wires and techniques. I was in the next room hammering away at a piece and my husband came in wondering what I was up to with all the noise. I had discovered you can flatten it into ribbon wire. Very cool! On top of that, you can twist it! I love my seed beads but working with wire is getting to be quite fun!

Chainmail Necklace

Although this is what most people call a “chainmail” or “chainmaille” necklace, I don’t think it’s quite there yet. My skills in this area don’t qualify. When I show this one, I say, “Look at the one I made out of jumprings.”

You have to have a load of patience to dabble in it. Not only that, you have to pay attention to what you are doing. These are two things I have trouble with. When I create, it’s usually while I am watching a movie, the two just don’t seem to mix.

If you are interested in learning more about chainmail check out this site. You’ll find everything you need to know there. And check out these necklaces from their gallery.

I’ll probably have a few more posts today. Check back later.

Wire, jump ring and Bead Necklace

Hello out there! I have been reading the forum here at wordpress and wondering if I should make a call out to fellow beaders. Maybe start a link list on our sites so we can see the eye candy at a click. I’m still in the learning phase and talking with other people who enjoy this craft would be nice. I might even get a tip or two! I wonder how many people even read the forum.

This necklace was the first time I tried to wrap with wire. I realized that I desperately needed a jig. This is truly an art. From the pictures I’ve seen online, I just can’t imagine being able to do the fancy work others are. If I succeed in that, I think I could succeed in anything. I like this one though. It’s me…

Might post a few more later. Or I might actually do some beading, we’ll see.
